Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Phalodi satta bazar bets on NDA getting less than two-thirds majority

In Phalodi, a small town in Rajasthan's Jodhpur district renowned for its election-related betting hub, the satta bazaar is adjusting its wagers on the BJP-led government.

Currently, the bets favor BJP securing around 303 seats, a slight reduction from the earlier prediction of 330-335 seats. The NDA is anticipated to clinch 340-350 seats, falling short of a two-thirds majority, while Congress is expected to secure approximately 50-51 seats.

This shift in betting trends is attributed to negotiations within the NDA, lower voter turnout, and the recent Supreme Court verdict on electoral bonds. The satta market offers a 1:1 rate for BJP securing 300-303 seats, indicating equal chances, whereas higher-risk bets like 320 seats carry a rate of 2.25.

For Congress, the rate stands at 1:1 for 50-51 seats and 1:3 for 60-61 seats, reflecting varying levels of risk.

Factors such as lower voter turnout and the Supreme Court's ruling on electoral bonds have slowed BJP's momentum. Despite expectations of a turnout surge benefiting the ruling alliance, the heatwave deterred voter participation.

Forecasts suggest BJP might lose some seats in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh but gain in Uttar Pradesh. However, it's noteworthy that in the 2019 elections, the BJP-led alliance surpassed satta market predictions, buoyed by post-Pulwama attack sentiment.

A less than two-thirds majority for the NDA could ripple into other markets, like equities, impacting major reforms proposed by the government.

If accurate, these predictions imply that Prime Minister Modi's ambitious call for "abaki baar 400 paar" might fall short of realization. Phalodi, known for salt production and extreme temperatures, despite its modest size and literacy rate, hosts the largest illegal betting market for elections and cricket matches, drawing participants nationwide.
