Who won yesterday’s IPL match? Key highlights of last night’s CSK vs PBKS match

Following their remarkable performance at Eden Gardens, Punjab Kings continued their winning streak by outplaying defending champions Chennai Super Kings with a convincing seven-wicket victory at their home ground in Tata IPL match 49 on Wednesday.

Punjab's pursuit of victory was led by Jonny Bairstow's quickfire 46 off 30 balls and Rilee Rossouw's aggressive 43 off 23 balls, propelling them past Chennai's competitive total of 162/7, anchored by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's solid 62 off 48 balls.

This triumph at Chepauk catapulted PBKS to the seventh spot on the IPL points table with eight points, while CSK maintained their fourth position with 10 points. CSK's bowling unit felt the absence of Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande, and an early injury to pacer Deepak Chahar left them with just two bowlers. Shivam Dube broke his wicket drought since 2020, but Punjab's disciplined batting display prevailed despite the challenging conditions caused by dew.

After an initial setback with the loss of opener Prabhsimran Singh, Bairstow and Rossouw formed a pivotal 64-run partnership, crossing the 50-run mark within the powerplay. Bairstow dominated the spinners, while Rossouw showcased his aggressiveness by dispatching Dube and Thakur for sixes. Although Rossouw fell short of a fifty, Shashank and skipper Sam Curran (26 not out off 20 balls) steered PBKS to victory with an unbeaten 50-run partnership.
